Premade vs Custom Logo Design: Which One Is Right For You?

A good logo is extremely important for your business not only for immediate brand recognition but, more importantly, to convey the image you want. Your logo is an integral part of your company's brand strategy and must reflect your purpose, personality, attitude, and sense of style. It must be well-designed, compelling, and memorable.

When it comes to choosing logos then, which one should you pick - premade or custom?

Premade Logos

Premade logos are pre-designed logos that can be purchased right away. Usually, the only customisation you can ask for is to have your brand name and tagline added or to change the font or text color.

There are a variety of reasons why you might suit a premade logo.

  • Budget. Premade logos are considerably cheaper than custom ones. If you're a start-up business with a very limited budget a premade logo will help you get up and running.

  • Availability. There are many graphic design companies offering premade logos. When you find one you like, you'll know exactly what you're going to receive because you can already see it designed and developed right there.

  • Time Frame. If you want a logo right away, and I mean in 5 mins right away, premade is the way to go because the customisations to be made are minimal and usually they can be delivered almost instantly.

What's tricky about premade logos is that they might not end up being truly unique, which is not good for your business. When choosing a premade logo, you also need to make sure that it is sold only once to avoid others from having a logo that looks a lot like yours.

You also need to make sure that the right files types are provided to you. Your logo needs to be in a vector format so a file type names EPS or AI are what you need to receive as well as your standard JPG, PNG, PDF.

If you need some more information on file types check out my FREE Resource library where I go through each one.

I offer several premade branding kits to clients who need a complete and unique brand design fast. Aside from a main logo in full color, our brand kits also include a basic brand board, an alternative logo, logo submarks, and black and white versions for all logotypes to help you make sure your branding is consistent everywhere. And not forgetting we provide you with all the file types that you need as well as acess to our FREE Resource library. These kits are only sold once and can be made available to you in just 48 hours.

Custom Logo

A custom logo is one that is made especially for you or your business. It typically goes through a branding process that will have you working with the designer to create a logo that is consistent with your strategy and delivers your message across.
The benefits of custom logos include the following:

  • Uniqueness. Your business is one-of-a-kind because it has its own mission, vision, and attributes, and your logo must represent those. Going through a custom branding process ensures that your logo is designed specifically for you right from the start. Compared to a premade one, a custom logo is often better at making your business easily recognisable, attracting the right people and in the long run, helping you gain brand loyalty and trust.

  • Customisation. You will start with a blank canvass and can basically create anything you want. You can decide on all the elements, such as colors, font, and graphics. Custom branding packages also allow for several revisions to refine and perfect your logo.

  • Collaboration. The custom branding process is a collaboration between you and your designer. No one knows your business more than you do and no one can explain it to your designer better than you.

Having a custom logo designed is an investment and will be a great benefit to building your brand and business. The entire process that we do takes between 2-4 weeks to complete and you can check out all the details in our Logo + Branding Package. Custom logos are, therefore, best for businesses that already have a very clear brand identity. This can be for either a new brand or for one that needs rebranding.
