5 tips to grow your business
Being self-employed is probably one of the most challenging things that I have ever decided to do, but also the most rewarding. I have great days when I'm on top of the world and creating amazing designs, then I have days where I hit a massive learning curve and feel like I'm doing it all wrong.
I wear so many different hats at any given time of the day, and this is one of the good and hard things about being self-employed. I thought I would share with you 5 tips to help grow your business that I have learnt and practised so far.
1. Organise Your Day
Whether you work from home or in an office it's easy to get distracted anywhere. Having a plan and organising your day into manageable time slots make the working day so much more productive. The best thing about creating schedule is that it keeps you honest and on track and removes that "oh just one more youtube cat video". If you have a plan, you have things you need to get done.
2. Create a Workspace you love
Everyone is set up a little bit differently and everyone likes different things but setting your office up and feeling comfy, proud and having it functional can help you be more productive.
What is also important is identifying that this specific spot is your dedicated work area, so that when you are there you are working and anywhere else is break time.
3. Work on Your Business Not in Your Business
While doing the actual work in your business is important don't forget to work on your business too. This includes spending time on developing systems, marketing, fine tuning processes, outsource work, without things like this your business won't grow. 4. Get Out of The House
If you work from home, often you can go almost the whole day without seeing a human being. Cabin fever can take over and you can feel quite isolated. One thing that I've found that can help motivate you more is to meet with people in the same industry. It's always nice to meet someone new, perhaps learn something and geek out over what you have in common.
5. Don’t Forget to Market
Having a steady pipeline, of high-value customers, is a recipe for a successful business. You should always be feeding that pipeline before it starves, or before you do! You need to actively market your business. Try Facebook groups, networking events, advertising, content marketing, Facebook adverts, posting regularly on social media and whenever you do anything like this make sure your brand is consistent.
